'We are concerned by the upward trend in the use of animals in scientific procedures...'

David Rutley

Consevative candidate for Macclesfield

Quote:

'We are concerned by the upward trend in the use of animals in scientific procedures. Our long term vision is for the gradual phasing out of animal testing but an immediate outright ban would have potentially damaging consequenses, so we need a step by step process to replace animal use with viable alternatives.'

This quote was obtained by FRAME (Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments) in April 2010 when it contacted parliamentary candidates to ask them to include the question of laboratory animal welfare in their campaigns for the forthcoming election.
