"An absolute position that all animal experiments are scientifically invalid is untenable. …examples of scientifically dubious or invalid animal experiments… do not add up to a general proof that animal experimentation as a whole is flawed science.”

The Animal Procedures Committee is an advisory, Non-Departmental Public Body established under the terms of The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.

The committee advises the Home Secretary on matters concerned with the Act, relating to any scientific procedures applied to a protected animal which may cause pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm.  They also examine other related subjects considered worthy of further study.

The report provides useful information about the application of the cost-benefit assessment in practice.
