The Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine is a forum for debate, education and entertainment for health professionals, as well as medical developments and research worldwide. Its aim is to influence clinical practice and policy making across the world.
 
The author, Patrick Vallance, qualified from St George's Hospital Medical School in 1984, in December, 1995, he took up the Chair of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at University College London and became a founding member of the Cruciform Project for Strategic Medical Research.
