"everybody has benefited immensely from scientific research involving animals"

The Royal Society

The use of animals in research - 28 January 2002

"…everybody has benefited immensely from scientific research involving animals and virtually every medical achievement in the past century has depended directly or indirectly from this type of work".
The Royal Society is the world's oldest scientific academies in continuous existence.  It is one of the leading independent scientific bodies of the UK and the Commonwealth, aiming to promote and support excellence in science.  The Society is independent of government, as it has been throughout its existence, by virtue of its Royal Charters.

Along with publishing seven, high quality peer-reviewed journals covering many aspects of science, the Royal Society is also involved in funding research, providing advice on controversial issues of the day, and work on increasing public interest in science.
